It started life as a 12-lane pin-boy bowling alley and thrived throughout the 1940s and 1950s. In the summer of 1941 renovations began and the owner Hank Sophie converted it into a bowling alley, cashing-in on the bowling craze that began in mid-20th century America. The building was an ice factory in its early days. Great spot to go bowling and have a drink. Decent vintage lanes aswell as food and bar They used to have the best indie punk rock bands perform. Bar and pool table in the back and friendly staff. An overall very shady establishment which is why I like it.įun spot to throw a few games. Great place to bowel and have a beer as well.ĭriest lanes Ive ever thrown on. Come for the charm and the newly upgrade jukebox! Great people and reasonable prices. Owned by an eccentric fellow that goes by the name of Hammer. Thanks for the wonderful services.Ī quirky old alley in the middle of Bucktown. I came here with my family and we had a very good time bowling. The manager was very sharp and accommodating and cut us a rational deal. Came here last week just to drink, but at about 1 AM decided to roll a few games. Its a shame there are so few bowling alleys anymore, but if theyre all doing business like this place, Im not surprised. The front desk people are rude, the alley is small and the prices are high. Though the deal was good, the regular prices are atrocious for bowling, especially considering how poor the service is. Ive been here twice and both times it was because of a Groupon deal. I do recommend it highly for the price though. The lanes were good, and the balls didnt suck. Went into the arcade and it seemed as if all the games were from the late 90s. Over-charged me(which was corrected by the shoe rental guy). The lady at the counter was on her phone the whole time she was taking care of me. There seems to be a lack of anyplace decent to bowl in the city unfortunately. It is a great place with a nice atmosphere, and if your lane works, can be a lot of fun alone or with friends and family. Luckily, the man behind the counter was nice enough to give us an extra half an hour in addition to the time spent fixing the lanes. After countless times at fixing it, we were issued a new lane with the same issue, but not at the severity as it was before. One issue, however, was that the balls kept getting stuck, and would not come down and back. The alley was well oiled and the staff was very nice. Not sure why this unkempt bowling alley rather close than take in any additional revenue they can but they can be assured that at least 6 people from the area wont be giving them any money any time soon. We asked if we could bowl for the half hour until they said they were going to close (still an hour and a half earlier than they usually close) and they said no. Came in here an hour and a half before it was supposed to close and we were told we couldnt bowl because there were not enough people bowling and they were going to close in a half hour, despite there being six of us going and we were going to use 2 Lanes, in addition to the 5 people already using a lane and the couple drinking at the bar.
